An unexpected trip to Japan
Japanese cuisine is far more than just sushi and ramen. It also knows how to take favourite dishes from around the world and make them its own, with more umami flavour and a side of rice. That’s why, in the third week of July, our Gastro Calendar will take you to the world of Japanese flavours in dishes that are not quite Japanese.

On the menu, you’ll find a Chinese classic with a Japanese twist, subuta: juicy pork in a sweet and sour sauce, served with steamed rice. The second option travels much further west, all the way to the United States. Nikomi hanbagu is a Japanese simmered hamburger steak in a spicy sauce with a wine reduction, also served with rice.
